This week’s “Best Dressed” article is dedicated to the iconic Korean celebrities who have attended the grand MET Gala over the years!The MET Gala, popularly referred to as fashion’s biggest night, is an “invitation-only” annual fundraising event held by Vogue Magazine for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Over the years, several Korean stars have been invited to the MET Gala for their prominence and all of them have served some incredible looks. Let’s take a look at them down below!Note: This article includes celebrities who are/have been active in the Korean entertainment industry. It does not take their nationality into account. Celebrities who are Korean yet not active in the Korean entertainment industry have not been included.
1. SUPER JUNIOR’s Choi SiWon
Idol, actor, superstar, SiWon, attended the 2013 MET Gala, which had the theme, “Punk: Chaos to Couture”. He opted for a classic suit and tie look with an ornate brooch that brought the fit together. The idol later expressed to “Billboard” that fashion for him is self-expression and confidence, which is definitely what he embodied at the event.
2. PSY
K-Pop sensation PSY also attended the 2013 MET Gala, representing the theme in a red and black houndstooth jacket, a crisp white shirt, and a bowtie. Trust PSY to turn up in style.
3. Rain
Global phenomenon, Rain, attended the MET Gala in 2015 as MCM’s official Brand Ambassador for Greater China and South East Asia. The theme for that year was “China: Through the Looking Glass” and Rain wore an MCM Tailor custom-made tuxedo for the event.
4. EXO’s Lay Zhang
The extraordinary Lay Zhang attended the 2019 MET Gala with the theme “Camp: Notes on Fashion”. He wore the Maison Valentino “Time Traveller”, a double breast black nylon suit, designed by Pierpaolo Piccioli, pairing it with sneakers.
5. BLACKPINK’s Rosé
The golden-voiced singer and BLACKPINK member, Rosé, attended the 2021 MET Gala, where the theme was, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” and she delivered gorgeously in a lovely Saint Laurent little black dress. Being the global ambassador of YSL, she was accompanied on the red carpet by Anthony Vaccarello, the Creative Director of Saint Laurent. Rosé accessorized her outfit with diamond jewelry that shone as bright as her.
6. CL
South Korea’s representative rapper CL also attended the 2021 MET Gala, bringing out the theme of “Americana” with a modern denim hanbok-inspired outfit, custom-made for her by Alexander Wang. Not only was she a glowing presence on the red carpet but also, the fusion of Korean tradition with American history was an incredible take on the theme.
7. NCT’s Johnny
The most recent addition to the roster of K-Pop idols who have been invited to the MET Gala is NCT’s Johnny, who attended the event in 2022. The theme for this year’s MET Gala was “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”, also known as “Gilded Glamour”. He wore a custom satin black suit by Peter Do for the night and was joined by the designer himself on the red carpet.
8. Jung HoYeon
Finally, one of the most beloved actresses in the world at the moment, Jung HoYeon of “Squid Game” fame, wore a structured cut-out dress from the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2017 Collection as she attended the 2022 MET Gala.
