This Week’s Recommendation: “Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint”
“Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint”, also known as “Omniscient Reader” or “ORV”, is an action-fantasy web novel also revolving around a decade-long apocalyptic web novel that has consistently had one loyal reader. When the fiction of the web novel becomes reality, its sole reader, Kim DokJa, must figure out how to stop doomsday with his knowledge of the ending.Originally by singNsong, “ORV” was adapted into a webtoon by UMI with art by Sleepy-C. The web novel was extraordinarily popular in the community during its serialization, and the webtoon exploded in popularity soon after, all over the world. For your reference, the English translation of the webtoon currently stands at 162.9M reads. “ORV” is also set to be adapted into five feature films, albeit the release dates are yet to be announced.Find out more about the webtoon below!The web novel at the centre of the action in this story is titled “Three Ways to Survive The Apocalypse”, written by author “TLS123”. It has 3149 episodes that Kim DokJa has been reading for ten years. He considers it an absolute masterpiece despite the fact that it is a little too long for comfort and has only ever had an average view count of 1.9 and an average comment count of 1.08. On the day he finishes the last unread episode, the world plunges into a darkness that looks eerily similar to the novel DokJa had been reading. That’s when he realizes that fantasy has turned into reality and no one but him can save the world because only he knows how this story goes.Before anything else, it is important to note the meaning behind our protagonist’s name - DokJa. DokJa means an only child, a reader, or an individualist in Korean. This is evidently fitting, given that DokJa is the only reader of “Three Ways to Survive The Apocalypse” and it takes on even more significance later on.Prior to the epilogue of “Three Ways To Survive The Apocalypse”, DokJa leaves a comment for TLS123 to thank him for everything. He soon replies, with a thank you and a token of gratitude that will “help” him when the web novel becomes paid content at 7 PM that evening. Sharp at 7, DokJa’s life, which had belonged to the non-fiction genre so far, changed drastically into fantasy horror.While everyone else was flustered by the happenings, DokJa knew exactly what was going on. The appearance of a strange “dokkaebi” on the train, the same one that appeared in the first paragraph of “Three Ways To Survive The Apocalypse”, heralded the tragic doom of the world in the form of the “Main Scenario” and nothing was ever the same.From then on, all of the human race is enrolled in a contest to earn money by completing scenarios, and they keep getting deadlier by the minute. Success would result in coins and failure, in death. Thus, the battle royale begins, but DokJa cannot just sit and watch mankind take themselves to ruin.
