You can read all of our picks for “Underrated Scene Of The Week” here. This week’s iconic yet underrated scene comes from the debut music video for XG’s ‘Tippy Toes’. XG or Xtraordinary Girls is a 7-member global girl group under XGALX that aims to empower young people around the world, especially women, through music and performance art. What XG stands for is revolution, strength, and belief in self, regardless of where life might take you, and ‘Tippy Toes’ is the perfect representation of this bold confidence to stand in one’s own power and brave the world.XG’s debut was so highly anticipated that the physical copies of their CD and vinyl were sold out in less than 48 hours after release, declaring the beginning of a new era for extraordinary girl groups. With ‘Tippy Toes’, XG embodies an elegant yet smug aura, announcing their arrival like the Queens they are. There’s a rookie freshness to the group mostly from the fact that we have never seen anything like this before but what is more evident is just how polished and unbelievably mature their sonic aesthetic is. This is the future of female music on the world’s stage and we are living for it.The scene, in particular, that has us slack-jawed in awe is the very opening sequence as the camera closes in on each member one by one before cutting to them in formation, ready to blow our minds. Maya sets the tone with her unbeatable charisma and the effect she has is almost as if she could diss you and you’d say thank you. As XG stands behind a glass frame, we are reminded of ‘Mic Drop’ by BTS in structure and vibe but there’s something about this scene that makes it distinctly unique in flavour. The graffiti is a clear call to youth and its rebellious energy whereas the frame seems to imply that XG is already a masterpiece, making worlds collide. The duality between the modern and the classic, hip-hop and R&B, feminine and masculine charms has so seamlessly coalesced together that you cannot help but feel like you’re witnessing something monumental. As the baseline kicks in, we see Jurin, the rapper, own the beat effortlessly as she sits pretty like art, unfazed by all the eyes on her. Her domineering energy is then undercut by Chisa’s soft, romantic vocals. This unpredictability is exactly what ‘Tippy Toes’ is all about. In come Harvey and Cocona, boasting not just impeccable flow but also two of the most unique rap voices we’ve ever heard! Soon after, we’re blessed with the smooth and mellifluous voice of Juria, softening the impact of the fire that the girls spit a second ago. “We a pack, every part of her is part of me” will definitely go down in music history as one of the most iconic girl group lyrics of all time. Finally, despite not getting the chance to showcase her vocals to their full potential, Hinata brings it all together in the final chorus with Harvey, Jurin, and Maya.If ‘Tippy Toes’ is just the beginning of XG, we cannot possibly imagine what this group could have in store for us next. All we know is that we’re in for the ride.
