Concept

The overall visual concept of the album leans towards a Y2K nostalgia that has become quite the trend with the newtro age. One is instantly reminded of the Hollywood cult classic “Mean Girls” with the title song and evidently, the film is quite the inspiration for this album. However, it soon becomes clear that on a deeper level, SunMi takes a rather playfully dark route, both with her music and her concept. Two sets of concept photos were released for this EP, each focusing on the two different moods. The first set of concept photos emphasizes the forlorn innocence of SunMi, especially with the use of the teddy bear as a prop.Alternatively, the second concept photo set highlights the bold and confident aspect of SunMi perfectly. Besides these, a title poster and a comeback poster were also released.

Fashion and Appearance

A close look at the title poster reveals the extraordinary and dazzling jewelry that SunMi is sporting for this comeback. The makeup is light, the hair is away from the face except for some framing pieces and her clothing doesn’t attract too much attention, which allows for the gorgeousness of the drip. The pearls and diamonds are bright but definitely not brighter than her eyes.Other highlights of her fashion include the long nails and the iconic Prada hair clips. In the music video, SunMi’s clothing is highly influenced by the film “Mean Girls”, especially with all the mini-skirts, patterns, plaid and tennis shoes.

Music

SunMi’s EP is made up of 6 songs, spanning 19 minutes and 51 seconds. SunMi artfully plays around with various genres, especially alt-rock and synth sounds, which come together perfectly. She also raps on this EP, which is refreshing and her flow is unique. The songs are ‘You Can’t Sit With Us’, ‘SUNNY’, ‘1/6’, ‘Call’, ‘Narcissism’ and ‘Borderline’. SunMi has written all the songs for this EP and has also participated in the composition of 4 out of the 6 songs.

Dance

SunMi being the dancing queen she is, delivers flawlessly on the choreography front once again! The dance is rather uncomplicated but lyrical which adds to its charm. Accompanied by the other dancers, the choreography becomes even more alluring. There are more than enough killing points to make one’s heart flutter and we can’t stop rewatching the video over and over again!   Latest Highlight Clip For “Girls Planet 999” Shows Participants Swooning Over Their K-Pop Masters KPOP STORIES|Aug 6, 2021 SunMi Returns With Stunning Y2K Inspired EP 1 6 - 53SunMi Returns With Stunning Y2K Inspired EP 1 6 - 2SunMi Returns With Stunning Y2K Inspired EP 1 6 - 18SunMi Returns With Stunning Y2K Inspired EP 1 6 - 6SunMi Returns With Stunning Y2K Inspired EP 1 6 - 53SunMi Returns With Stunning Y2K Inspired EP 1 6 - 2
