Personal Life
Kim SoHyun was born in 1999 in Australia, then moved to Korea when she was 4 years old. She began acting in 2006 with a supporting role in the series “Drama City”, in an episode entitled “Ten Minute Minor.” From there, she worked diligently to increase her popularity by working in 6 different dramas from 2007 to 2009.However, as her working life saw positive growth her personal life became a bit more difficult. At the age of 9, Kim SoHyun’s father tragically passed away. Her mother also began to worry about her schooling as acting takes up a lot of time and energy. Acting also makes it hard for a young girl to have friends or go to school events like all her schoolmates.Then, after graduating from elementary school, SoHyun found it increasingly hard to balance her work and school life. So, she decided to be homeschooled for her remaining school period in high school. SoHyun did not want to give up on, or neglect, her schooling because of her acting or vice versa. By 2017 she was able to pass the high school graduation exam and enrolled in the theater department at Hanyang University in 2018. We’re proud of you SoHyun!So far, SoHyun has said she had no time for romantic relationships. In an interview with ‘Sports Seoul’ she said, “I think I still believe being in a relationship is very difficult. I also think that filming already consumes a lot of my emotions, so I don’t really feel a strong need to have one. If I meet someone I like enough to overcome all those factors, though, I think I’d start dating.” Thanks to her lack in romantic experiences, she stated she found scenes with strong emtions or breakups the most difficult. “That’s why I try hard to feel exactly what my character feels in the drama, to the extent that I begin to think I have actual feelings for my co-stars.” She said in order to understand how other act when they are in love, she watches a lot of romantic movies and dramas and studies their reactions. This is just another way in which Kim SoHyun has shown her dedication to her acting career.
Acting Career
Kim SoHyun started to slowly gain popularity after the years and appeared in 16 films and dramas until she was cast in the drama that skyrocketed her career. In 2012, she appeared in 6 works in only the first half of the year. One such work was the hit drama “The Moon That Embraces The Sun.” SoHyun played the younger version of the female antagonist. The drama earned the title of ’national drama’ because of its 42.2% viewership rating. The success of the drama also earned SoHyun the title of ’the nation’s little sister.‘Thanks to the popularity of the drama, Kim SoHyun’s career took off. She was cast in many more popular dramas like “Who Are You: School 2015” and “Love Alarm” where she played the main female lead. This cemented her position as a lead actress in the K-Drama world. Her latest drama, “River Where the Moon Rises” was voted one of the top 4 best dramas from the first half of 2021 by Kpopmap users! She has even become the 8th most followed Korean actress on Instagram!
